Travel logos are of many types and their designing do get change from product and services they offer. Logo designers that incorporate images of globes and compasses aren't necessarily doing their customers a service. In experienced hands these types of images can enhance a travel agent's image, but in the wrong hands they can have the opposite effect and give the travel agent a redundant and outdated business identity.
